7 Beautiful Places In Michigan That Will Surely Captivate You!

Michigan is one of the most beautiful states ever. Aside from the world famous tourist attractions, The Mitten States also boasts with less known destinations and locations that Michiganders are truly proud of.

You surely heard about the magnificent views of the Mackinac Bridge, the stunning beauty of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and the enchanting elements of its natural wonders like its rivers and waterfalls.

So today, I will feature some of the lesser known Michigan destinations that are equally enchanting and amazingly beautiful.

Lac La Belle

Lac La Belle is a French word or term for “Lake Beautiful”. Lac La Belle has an active summer tourist industry, with many summer cottages and resorts. The area has many dense forests and small mountains perfect for hikers during fall season. In the winter, the nearby Mount Bohemia attracts skiers and snowboarders. Winter, summer or fall, Lac La Belle is quite an amazing tourist destination.

The Platte River

This river has crystal clear waters that snake around the sand, forest and hills. This river empties out at the national lakeshore.  A great place for summer fun activities like canoe, kayak, tube or raft. An amazing place to see and visit during summertime.

Michigan Legacy Art Park

This is probably one of the most underrated destinations in Michigan.  The Michigan Legacy Art Park is a 30-acre outdoor sculpture park located near Thompsonville, Michigan, on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort. It is open year-round and includes 40 works of art and 1.6 miles of hiking trails.
Michigan Legacy Art Park inspires awareness, appreciation and passion for Michigan’s history, culture and environment through the arts. The mission is primarily fulfilled through an outdoor sculpture collection that expresses Michigan’s history and extensive educational opportunities. So if you wanted to know more about Michigan’s past, this is the place to be.

Alger Underwater Preserve

Alger is one of 11 underwater preserves in Michigan.  The Alger Underwater Preserve is located in Lake Superior, it protects waters that lie offshore the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Grand Island National Recreation Area. It is home to a number of intact shipwrecks and underwater caves. Scuba diving is very popular in here as it gives a more close-up view of the wrecks and while having the chance to explore the caves. There’s also a glass-bottom boat tour which crosses over the shipwrecks alongside Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Eagle Harbor

Eagle Harbor has one of the most amazing views in Michigan. From thick forests, rolling hills up to amazing lighthouses, this place almost has it all. One of the most visited attractions at Eagle Harbor is the 144-year-old red-brick lighthouse.

Green Point Dunes Nature Preserve

This preserve offers nearly three miles of trail winding through forest and meadow to stunning views of Lake Michigan and a beach of unparalleled beauty. The Green Point Dunes Nature Preserve is host to many native plant species and unique bird habitat so be on the lookout for wildflower displays and great birding opportunities.

Headlands International Dark Sky Park

Being one of only nine designated “dark sky” parks in the world, the Headlands International Dark Sky Park is a must visit location. This 600-acre parcel of land contains two miles of uninhabited Lake Michigan shoreline and thick forest. The park provides exceptionally starry skies due to low light pollution. A very popular destination for star gazers, photographers, and nature lovers.

    My husband and I want to do our next road trip to Michigan and I had no idea about Alger Underwater Preserve. It sounds like a crazy cool adventure and I really want to check it out.

  3. Michigan has so many amazing places to see that are off the beat path. I haven’t been to Lac La Belle, but it looks amazing! Eagle Harbor is one of my favorite places to visit.

    The Headlands International Dark Sky Park is the place I want to be right now. I am awed at the beauty of the night sky. The photo with the aurora borealis, a meteor, and the Milky Way Galaxy is fantastic. I wish I could witness something like that in this lifetime!
