One of North America’s premier mineral museums, the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum is nationally and internationally recognized by mineral collectors and connoisseurs. Featuring the largest public exhibit and finest collection of minerals from the Great Lakes region and the world’s best collection of Michigan minerals, the museum exhibits feature the rich colors of nature’s masterpieces. While visitors marvel, they learn about minerals through informative displays and discover how minerals are important in your life. The museum is a repository of iconic specimens of copper and over 100 other minerals from the modern copper mining era in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which ended in 1996.
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum has become one of Michigan’s most popular destinations in the cultural tourism industry, attracting over 75,000 visitors each season. The museum is open every day May 1 to October 31, from 10 am to 6 pm. Museum patrons learn about the perils of maritime transport on the Great Lakes at the Whitefish Point Light Station, an Historic Site on the National Register of Historic Places. Michigan has such an amazing history! I have been to almost all of these museums, but the shipwreck museum is probably my favorite. We used to go there all the time when I was a kid.
I have lived in Michigan my entire life and sadly will have to say that I’ve only been to one of these museums! I can’t wait to visit these unique ones with my family!
The Air Zoo and the Mineral Museum are the ones I would love to see first. How cool it is to see a supersonic jet within arms reach? Oh and those mineral crystals are so pretty! I should remember these museums the next time I am in Michigan. Hopefully soon!

Every time we visit a city/country for the first time, we always make it a point to visit their museums. There is so much to learn and experience when you are inside a museum. These ones you featured here are so awesome. I would want to get to see those mineral crystals. How can something that pretty grow deep down in the earth?
I don’t think I’ve been to any museums in Michigan before. These would be nice to visit with my kids! There’s plenty of things to learn there.
I am pretty sure my husband will enjoy any museum that’s about cars! I would love to take him here for a vacation so that we can visit Michigan’s museums!
