Michigan is rich in beautiful and amazing islands. Being bordered by four of the five Great Lakes – Lake Erie, Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, the State has been blessed with breathtaking islands that locals and tourists enjoy all throughout the year.

  1. Beaver Island

This is the largest island in Lake Michigan and part of the Beaver Island archipelago. This island is a very popular tourist and vacation destination all throughout the year. The island is located in the very middle of northern Lake Michigan thus making it as one of the finest dark skies star gazing locations in the United States. Just like what this website says, visiting the majestic and beautiful North and South Manitou Islands is an adventure that you will always remember! The North and South Manitou Islands are located in Lake Michigan and are part of Leelanau County and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. You can do some hiking activities, spend few nights camping and explore the wilderness in this majestic place.

Isle Royale is an island of the Great Lakes, located in the northwest of Lake Superior. Isle Royale Island is considered as the largest natural island in Lake Superior and the second largest island in the Great Lakes after Manitoulin Island. Isle Royale Island exists as part of Isle Royale National Park which consists of over 450 smaller islands. There’s no shortage of outdoor activities in this area.

Mackinac Island is probably the most popular island in Michigan.  It’s one of the most beloved place of Michiganders and a popular tourist attraction and summer colony. The entire island is listed as a National Historic Landmark. It is well known for its numerous cultural events, architectural styles and its ban on almost all motor vehicles. If you wanted to leave the city life even just for a day or night, this island is perfect for you.

Bois Blanc Island is one of those Michigan islands that are truly a must visit everyone. Although motorized (commercial and private) vehicles are allowed, there are no official paved roads at this location. Visit this Pure Michigan page for more info and photos.

One of the underrated islands in Michigan is Drummond Island. Michiganders calls this place as a unique paradise. Island features one of the largest closed loop trail systems for off road – ATV / ORV exploration in America, world class kayaking, fantastic birding, hiking and biking.
